NEC – Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show 2022

We had a great day at the show and what a delight to be back in this space and enjoying these events. The changed organisation with limited numbers and pre-bought ticketing meant that whilst reasonably busy, the event was not overwhelmingly crowded.

What we did have to adapt to were the post-pandemic queues to get in each motorhome to view them, which despite a reasonable amount of queuing they did not take too long to diminish. The queue system did mean that you got to have a good look and poke around each motorhome without distraction from crowds around you. This was helpful.

We had come in mind to explore a number of options for a possible upgrade in 2023 – with long lead times and build delays in mind – we needed to start planning ahead. Our focus were fixed island bed models in the 3500kg MTLPM scope with capability of towing a small tow car. This meant the stands for Adria, Auto-Trail, Bailey, Swift (via Lowdham’s), Roller Team, Elddis and Chausson were on the radar.

Research and conversation with the specialists on the stands ruled out the Bailey Adamo 75-4I due to towing limitations – the recent upgrades and refresh put this back on the list and the towing issue took it straight off again – we now understand this is to do with the ability of the Ford Transit automatic cabs. This also ruled out the Chausson 788 – but also due to the flimsy build quality. A good at show deal was offered (for the spec and part exchange) against an Elddis Encore 250 – but the all in one wash room would have been a compromise that we now know would not work. Shortlist comes down to the Adria Coral Plus, the Swift Hi-Style 694 and Auto-Trail Tracker RB.
