The 2023 Season

CAMC, CCC, CL, CS and Independent Sitea

During 2023 there are a number of trips booked for all combinations of campsites from the most frequently visited CAMC to some new CL and Independents. During the year our reviews, site plans, photos and overviews shall be narrated here, as we progress our travels.

Greenacres CL

13th to 15th January 2023. This is a super CL on the outskirts of Murrow, Cambridgeshire. This was our first outing of 2023 and one to kick off the new season. We were seeking something quiet and good for walking – this site is ideally placed on the outskirts of the town and is situated next to the former railway and Murrow East station (which you can still see as a house today). This is not too far from Wisbech, Peterborough and March so makes for a good base for days out if you have a car. The facilities are well thought through and professionally organised for a small CL. Communication from the owners was excellent with the texts and information on how to access with codes etc. It is a very secure site through multiple gates and behind a small business and home. The pitches are all hardstanding with EHU and grey waste can piped into the hedgerow behind. There is a small information shed. We would very much recommend this one!

Chatsworth Park CAMC

12th to 16th February 2023. This was our second outing of the year and a return visit to the CAMC site at Chatsworth, the last time being in the snow in November 2021. We really enjoyed our last visit and this time did not disappoint again – the easy access to the Chatsworth Estate though the secret door meant lots of walks in the grounds and across to the garden centre two miles away. A couple of trips out in the little toad (tow car) to the Monsall Trail and Bakewell were a pleasure and we enjoyed several miles of walking on the former track bed of the Midland Railways route through the peaks – over viaducts and through tunnels that have been very well restored and repaired to provide this super trail. Highly recommend the walk and there are a selection of pubs en-route too! The site was well kept and the warden team lovely – we ran out of gas, they had one in stock and even delivered it to our pitch! Friendly and helpful. The site was trialling a new waste system with fewer bins and more central larger bins to reduce waste of bags and improve the collection for wardens. Seemed to be working well. Pitch 74 for us this time.

Incleboro Fields CAMC

An early March getaway saw us travelling through snow to get here, fresh air and coolness as we arrived, but a sunny and brighter day on the beach during the Saturday. We took the option to have the serviced pitches here mainly due to experience on being on the lower field last time we stayed and knew the pitches were flatter when selecting these – with hindsight, many on this side of the site are level enough for motorhomes.  We made a video of our stay and the trip to the beach with the fur babies at West Renton for our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/-l_D3k2Splc

Ashridge Farm CAMC

We took a weekend break away during March 2023 not too far from home. This stain we were on Pitch 87. This was a proper relax and unwind weekend between the February half term and Easter Break. This is a delightful little site located in Hertfordshire just a short hop off the A1 and not too far from Letchworth and Stevenage. The village is a short and pleasant walk away from the site with good local shops and pubs! The campsite is small but perfectly formed, in fact the CAMC storage unit appears to be bigger than the site itself! We made a short video of our stay here on our channel on YouTube so please take a look: https://youtu.be/zlDc_dqN7ak

Brighton CAMC Club Site

This was our first stay at the Brighton CAMC – the last visit to this neck of the woods in autumn 2020 saw us staying at Worthing and driving in – we still had the caravan then! So this was nice to be a short walk from the marina and sea front and walks around the country park as well as a short drive into Brighton with the little red car – certainly made for easy parking during the Easter holidays. We also took a trip to Beachy Head and Eastbourne.  Have a look at our experience in this YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/QayPCJlJkUo.

Love 2 Stay

Oh we chose a very nice campsite for this weekender! We had seen several recommendations on Facebook and YouTube and just had to give this a go. There are 115 touring pitches as well as glamping, statics/cabins, tenting and chalets. This is a luxurious spa-style resort with lots to offer couples or families alike. Located near to Shrewsbury and next door to a super garden centre and Salop Leisure (one of the largest motorhome and caravan dealers around these parts) you get the best of everything. We had a serviced pitch. We were really impressed with this site and highly recommend! YouTube review is here: https://youtu.be/MgTzzoi4f_Q

Eye Kettleby Lakes

We booked this stay specifically to coincide with the habituation and vehicle checks on the motorhome. The day before travelling here the motorhome was at Brownhills in Newark so Andy hopped down the A46 with the motorhome and Jamie drove over after work with the fur babies. This was a lovely independent site (that caters for couples and families as well as being an excellent choice for freshwater/lake fisher-people). This not a weekend for doing lots, more of a test out and refill the motorhome after the habitation check. As we had the main car with us we di go to Brownhills and top up on essentials and Andy spotted some nice new Dometic chairs – so we treated ourselves ready for the summer in France and Spain – our old chairs were very old (they belonged to Andy’s parents from their caravanning days) and started to fail when in France in May so it was time! Take a look at our opinion on YouTube: https://youtu.be/h5avGiinw8M

New Lodge – Bulwick, Northamptonshire

xx. An early July weekend break just a short hop from home. New Lodge is just a few miles north of Corby and a few miles south of Stamford off the A43. Easy links to several attractions in the vicinity and we highly recommend Fineshade Woods and Burghley House. It is an independent site but is affiliated with Tranquil Parks. We like the set up of the site, its location (and its short walk into Bulwick – although we understand the pub has now closed which is a shame as this was nice for food and drink), the onsite deli/shop and restaurant. This has been well thought out. If you are travelling up and down the UK along the A1 (which is 20+ minutes from here) it is worth a shout. Take a look at our tour here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/q-N2g7kIAmM

Sandringham Estate CAMC Club Site

A final weekender before we headed off to France and Spain! Now we chose a July with the hope of having a few lovely summery walks in the estate and woodlands, allowing the dogs to have their time off lead (which they love in the woods here when its quiet of course) but alas it rained, and rained and rained! We love this site and it is one our favourites all year round. We had a nice pitch on the upper level – Knights Rise – now this does help with the signals for phone and TV and as we had the Wi-Fi fitted this was a good chance to test out in one of the most challenging sites for this! Have a look at our ‘School’s Out’ video here: https://youtu.be/PYzkwPWUwMc

Ferry Meadows CAMC

We had two stays here in the autumn – September and November. These were to join family we have in Peterborough for a 30th birthday event and another birthday. In a very bizarre twist of fate the exact same pitch was available for both stays! Despite the busyness of the site during the autumn. We love this location and its proximity to home and family, as well as the walks we take around Ferry Meadows itself, and even enjoy the steam trains that run along the side of the site as part of the Nene Valley Heritage Railway. Take a look at our short and spooky video from October 2022 where we took a ride on this when we stayed here with great friends for Halloween : https://youtu.be/hrDGsWa_B2E This time of year they only have the West Site open (November) as the East closed on 31st October. There are more grass pitches on the east. Nene Valley Railway is no more than a 10 minute brisk walk and takes you into centre of Peterborough and across to the museum and base at Wansford/Stibbington. During the November stay we did take some time to put a little video together: https://youtu.be/C_MVNsGGeRc

New Forest Centenary CAMC Club Site

October half term led us south and a trip to the New Forest CAMC for the first time. We splashed out on one of the Premium Serviced pitches which were quite nice – with garden, benches and BBQ area as well as the usual serviced offering. This was not that much more expensive but was available during a busy week. There a few videos from our stay here you can go ad watch on the channel: (1) https://youtu.be/Hmnfk4plPP4 is our days out, (2) https://youtu.be/Lol5COP1PoQ is the arrival and campsite and video (3) is https://youtu.be/UU2OAC_AgkA when leaving the site.

Sandringham Estate CCC

We like to alternate and for our Twixmas – the time between Christmas and New Year we took a trip to the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Sandringham. This was for a few nights to enjoy a break from the festivities and enjoy a walk up to the house and grounds and back through the forest with the fur babies. It was very busy for the time of year proving that all season camping is as popular as ever. We loved the pitch and the flexibility that the team showed – there was a standard water point behind us they happily let you use for the motorhome. There are super dog walks all around the site which is perfect for us. We have a YouTube from this stay which you can enjoy: https://youtu.be/dKE9igY7AZQ and for more information you can visit a detailed site here: https://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/campsites/uk/norfolk/sandringham/sandringham-camping-and-caravanning-club-site/
